My apologies!

Sorry people but I think I am either going to shut this project down or hand it over to someone else. I've just come out of hosiptal after having my sixth heart attack, so I would like to be in the planning stage just not the main person. I need time to recover. E-mail me if you would like to take it over at zombee81@hotmail.com.

I shell try and get the demo up and running still but don't hold your breath for obvious reasons!

Flash OS Project setup on Source Forge!

Hi guys!

Been a good day today! Although I hadn't had much time to do anything on the themes, but the project is setup on Source Forge, although it's going to take a couple of days for the domain name to filter through. When that happens I will post the address here.

The documentation is coming along, all be it slowly, defining how the themes will interact with the emulator and phone. Probably use some standard components to simplify the design of the themes, etc.

Not going to do anything on the themes for the next couple of days, because my site for selling the mobile screensavers and wallpapers needs to be finished and I have to create some more screensavers, but if I have anything to announce then I will post it here.

Talk to you soon!

Current Thinking!

Well, it's taking me much longer than I thought to do this, mainly because I'm doing a extensive demo, which will really show you the capabilities of the OS.

Here you see the two big icons on the extreme left and right, these tell you the usual signal strength and type, and the battery. The smaller icons inbetween are functional icons, this means that they not only indicate information but can be selected to open a function, in this case, e-mails and message inbox. I say they indicate information because they flash if there is a new message or email.

Below this there will be just informational icons, such as the key lock icon and the mute icon, some of which can be selected, but of course the key lock icon won't be selectable because when that appears the key pad is locked! Obvious, I know but I had to say it.

If you compare that to the original N95 interface, you have the clock and date at the top of the screen as well as the usual signal and battery, I haven't done this because when the phone is on standby it will be displaying a large clock and date in the main area.

I shell keep updating this blog with things that I come up with and as I get further in to the development of the emulator, so keep coming back. As always your comments are welcome, just post them here.

Emulator up and running!

The emulator is running correctly, however I have to do a theme, possibly a couple of themes before releasing it to you to take a look at. :)

Once the emulator is finished and up on the internet, I will see about converting it to AIR so you can download it and play.

I was thinking about how the phone would tell between the different swf file types, because we can have swf files containing Applications, Themes, Pictures, Music/Sounds or any other type of data. I was thinking along the lines of having a standard XML file describing the contents of the file. Tell me what you think, or if you have better ideas please tell me!

Standby Screen Design

This is the first design of the standby screen, it doesn't have any of the other icons on it yet, they are to be designed, but the signal and battery levels are there.

The next thing I'm going to do is a working flash demo, so that you can select menu options, screensaver will play and be some what functional.

Being flash the screen will be able to be completely changed, so don't let the design put you off. The reason I'm using flash is so that anyone can design and create Themes for this OS simply and easily by using Adobe Flash CS3 and a toolkit of components that will put the connections needed to the OS.

Well, I'll get back to work now, and you can comment on the design.

Flash OS

What is Flash OS?

Flash OS is a proposed operating system for the Nokia N95, it will have a flash front-end, and will interface with the phone system via a program. It will be developed under Open Source and will always be free to use, in fact the only thing you won't be able to do under the licence is sell it for money. There will be two stages to the development of this operating system.

The first stage will be a working demo, fully functional, however the original OS will still need to be there.

The second and final stage will be the final operating system, which will replace the mobile phones operating system altogether.

Pictures of the proposed interface are coming, just got to put the finishing touches to them.

What do I need from you?

Well, primarily I would like to know what you want your mobile to do? Ideas on the user interface? Should I include Flash Lite 3 or go for the full Flash 9 player? Basically anything that you would like to see on your phone, please post here.

Also we would like to hear from Nokia C++ programmers, who can do functions for the operating system, graphic artists for those animated and still icons and backgrounds etc., and flash developers. I will be fleshing out all the details over the coming months, so keep your ideas coming.
